Role
An “Alternate Judge” is an individual nominated by a political party or the authority ordering the election. The alternate judge serves as a clerk unless needed to take over the role of Presiding Election Judge in the event of that person’s inability to serve.
Responsibilities
Alternate Judges are responsible for:
- Assisting the Presiding Judge with setting up the vote center
- Completing voter check-ins
- Assisting voters with election equipment, as needed
- Assisting voters with curbside voting
- Assisting the Presiding Judge with closing the vote center
