Registering to Vote
In Texas, you do not need an ID to register to vote. Simply complete a Voter Registration Application and make sure all required fields are filled out. Voter Registration applications can be picked up at your local tax offices, library, and other government offices.
Below, you’ll find details on how to complete the sections for your permanent and mailing addresses.
How to Fill Out Your Permanent Address
You can use a description of the place where you live or sleep as your home address, such as a park or the intersections of street corners. Please note, an intersection is preferred for accuracy.
Completing Mailing Address
It’s important to complete the mailing address section of the Voter Registration Application (Section 4). You cannot use a description as your mailing address. This address is where your state will send important voter information, such as your Voter Registration Certificate. This certificate can be used for voting if you don’t have an acceptable form of ID.
Here are some options for the mailing address you might use:
- A nearby shelter, even if you don’t stay there
- A nearby religious center
- General Delivery at your local post office, if available
- A P.O. box at a nearby post office
- A friend or family member’s address nearby
Please remember, that you cannot use the description of your living place as your mailing address.
Use your current address for both your home and mailing address if you live at:
- A shelter
- A religious center
- Another community place
